SMITHFIELD—Mildred Haverty Griffin, 88, died July 9, 2007 in Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center.

Mrs. Griffin was a native of Isle of Wight County, a member of Smithfield Baptist Church and of the B.L. Wells Sunday School Class.

During her active years, she was a member of the DAR, Daughters of the Confederacy and the Smithfield Woman’s Club.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Parke Herbert Griffin Sr. and her parents, Hoyt C. and Rosa Perry Haverty.

Survivors include her son, Parke H. Griffin Jr. of Smithfield.

A graveside service was conducted Thursday in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Smithfield, with the Rev. Dr. Donald Rhoton officiating.

Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity of one’s choice.
