CARROLLTON—Milton Benton &uot;Jesse&uot; James Jr., 77, died July 5, 2007, in his residence.
A native of Elizabeth City, he served as a chief warrant officer-4 in the U.S. Army for 22 years including 4 1/2 years in Vietnam.
In 1973, he and his wife retired and the traveling started. He and his wife enjoyed scuba diving, boating and traveling.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Joyce Bell James; a daughter, Marion Crystal James of Carrollton; a son, Johnny M. James of Smithfield; two brothers, William Douglas James of Carrollton and Robert Nurney James of Boise, Idaho; and three grandchildren, James Denard Foy of Chesapeake, Morgan Racheil Bailey and Cheyenne Jesse James, both of Smithfield.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, by Pastor Bill Eley.
Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the funeral home Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Army Emergency Relief, 200 Stovall St., Alexandria, VA 22332.
