Calvin Dickerson

ZUNI—Calvin Dickerson, 86, of the 4400 block of Duck Town Road, died June 30, 2007, in Southampton Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Mr. Dickerson was a native of Southampton County.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, James Dickerson and Catherine Seward Dickerson.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran.
He retired from Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where he served on the deacon board, member of the official board, Sunday school and the Men’s Chorus.
He was past president of the PTA and past president of Local 888.
He was also predeceased by two brothers, Roy and James Dickerson; and one sister, Lucy Lawrence.
Survivors include his wife Cleder Reid Dickerson; daughters, Lucy Mae Smith of Richmond, Doris R. Williams (Ray) of Hayward, Calif., Helen Dickerson of Brooklyn, N.Y., Frances D. Blow and Cleo Dickerson of Virginia Beach, Florence D. Odom (Curtiss) of Decatur, Ga., Denise D. Turner of Zuni and Calveta Odom (Howard) of Suffolk; brother, Robert Lee Dickerson; sister-in-law, Eunice Dickerson; 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Piney Grove Baptist Church, Franklin. The Rev. Alfred Brown Sr. will officiate. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
