IVOR—The celebration of marriage for Ashlyn Winder Scott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Dixon Scott to Robert Freeman Scarborough, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tod Freeman Scarborough of Wakefield, took place Nov. 3,
at a quarter past six in the evening at Ivor Baptist Church.
The Rev. Steven Gupton officiated the double-ring ceremony.
The bride, escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, is the maternal granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Russell West of Ivor, and the paternal granddaughter of the late Gaylhia Walter Scott, and Marion Spady Scott, Junior of Cape Charles.
The groom is the paternal grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Llewellyn Scarborough of Wakefield and the maternal grandson of the late Anne Seward Cobb, and Reuben Myric Cobb of Wakefield.
The bride wore a ball gown by Ulla Maija in soft white duchess satin, draped with a chapel length train, and the bodice with a sweetheart neckline.
She wore an elbow length veil, trimmed in duchess satin.
She carried Dendrovium orchids with Ports Larel.
Lesley Anne Peebles, of Charlotte, N.C., served as maid of honor.
Bridesmaids included Lily Ann Scarborough of Wakefield, sister of the groom, Magen Lynn Brock of Harrisonburg, Mallory Gwen Heslep of Charlottesville, and Jessica Adele Wheeler of Waverly.
The bridesmaids wore gowns of soft white satin with a black satin sash. They carried pomanders of white roses and Ports Larel.
Tod Freeman Scarborough, father of the groom, served as best man.
Groomsmen included Walter Dustin Scott of Fort Myers, Fla., brother of the bride, Richard Bryan Epps of Surry, Hunter Bryce Patterson of Wakefield, Matthew John Krupinski of Fairfax, and Dennis Marks Gwaltney Jr. of Spring Grove.
Stephanie Jones Burchett and Mrs. Rita McCormick served as mistresses of ceremonies.
Brynna Dare Burchett was the assistant to the mistresses.
JoAnn West Hall was the scripturist, and Mark Hall was the soloist.
Katelyn Hayes Holdsworth attended the guestbook at the wedding and reception.
Program attendants were Savannah Hall, Hayley Hall, Rhett Scarborough and Logan Scarborough.
Russell Frohman rang the wedding bells.
Sharon Garner was the bridal assistant and Crystal Jones was bridal party assistant.
Patty Felts and Leslie Felts assisted the bridal party with the flowers.
The wedding music was provided by the Stowehaven Strings.
The reception following the ceremony was held at Cypress Cove Country Club in Franklin.
Kilby’s Flower Shop created the custom floral pieces at the church and the reception.
John Moore Drewry designed the chandelier wreath especially for the bride at the request of the bride’s mother.
Mrs. Jessie Cook of Sedley provided the cake, designed by the bride and groom, which was topped with a bone china bride and groom, a gift from the bride’s mother.
The cake was sprinkled with Dendrovium orchids.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Holdsworth Jr., godfather of the bride, served as hosts at the reception until the bridal party arrived.
Music was provided by Eric Emerson.
Allyn Brown, of Oneil’s Studio was the photographer.
The bride is a graduate of Tidewater Academy in Wakefield, and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from The University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
She is employed by Ivor Furniture Co. Inc.
The groom is also a graduate of Tidewater Academy in Wakefield.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Christopher Newport University.
He is a 2007 graduate of the Virginia State Police Academy and is employed by the Virginia State Police.
The couple honeymooned in St. Lucia, and resides in Wakefield.
Parties
On June 30, an engagement party was held at The Pace House Inn in Franklin, given by Mr. and Mrs. Walter Holdsworth Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Robert Felts Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Randy Carr.
On Aug. 4, Lesley Peebles and Kathy Peebles entertained the bride with a miscellaneous shower at the Southern Sisters Bakery and Eatery in Courtland.
On Aug. 26, Sharon Garner, Stephanie Burchett and Miss Brynna Burchett gave the bride to be a Pampered Chef shower at the Ivor Baptist Church fellowship hall.
On Sept. 22, the couple enjoyed an outdoor cookout and yard party at the home of Rita McCormick and husband, Ron Stephens.
On Oct. 6, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Hall honored the couple with cocktails and a buffet at their riverfront home in Smithfield.
On Oct. 11, Patty Felts and Leslie Felts hosted a shower of seasons in the fellowship hall at Ivor Baptist Church in Ivor.
The bride was surprised and entertained with a bachelorette weekend Oct. 19 in Nags Head by her maid of honor and bridesmaids.
The bridal party enjoyed the weekend of events at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rossie Brock Jr.
Mr. and Mrs. Tod Scarborough hosted the rehearsal dinner for the bridal party, family and friends on Nov. 2 at Phinn’s in Franklin, at which time the groom presented his groomsmen with gifts.
A bridal luncheon was given on Nov. 3 at the home of Rita McCormick, with the assistance of Stephanie Burchett.
The bride presented her attendants with earrings designed for their gowns and gifts of appreciation.
