Mary C. Mills

NEWPORT NEWS—Mary Johns Cameron Mills died June 9, 2007.

Mrs. Mills was born in Southern Pines, N.C. on Feb. 6, 1935 to the late Daniel David Shields Cameron and Margaret Louise Porter Cameron.

She grew up in Southern Pines, graduated from Southern Pines High School and attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she earned a B.A. in Early Childhood Education.

She was an elementary school teacher in Onslow County, N.C. for 15 years then pursued a career in the life insurance industry in Northern and Southeastern Virginia.

She was a long-time member of St.Anne’s Episcopal Church in Jacksonville, N.C. and St. Barnabus Episcopal Church in Annandale.

She was proud of her Scottish heritage and was a life-long member of Clan Cameron in North America, Grandfather Mountain NC Branch.

She was preceded in death by her brother, David Daniel Shields Cameron Jr. of Wilmington, N.C.

Survivors include her sister, Peggy Jean and brother-in-law, William G. Mordecai of Raleigh, N.C.; her sister-in-law, Edith R. Cameron of Wilmington; her four children, J. Cameron Mills of Raleigh, Dr. L. Scott Mills of Missoula, MT, Michelle Mills Rose of Carrsville and E. Eric Mills of New Bern, N.C., and seven grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Emmanuel Episcopal

Church at Southern Pines with the Rev. John G. Tampa officiating.

Interment will follow at the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may join the family on today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home for a time of visitation.
