Helen H. Jackson

SUFFOLK—Helen Hyatt Jackson, 88, died May 2, 2007, at Consulate Healthcare Center, Windsor.

Born in Suffolk, she was the daughter of the late James Tilman Hyatt and Indiana Ellis Hyatt. Along with her late husband, Jesse N. Jackson, Mrs. Jackson was owner/operator of Jackson’s Grocery on East Washington Street in Suffolk for more than 20 years.

She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, and West End Baptist Church, Suffolk.

Survivors include a sister, Mildred Hearn Schillaci and husband Joseph of Smithfield; sister-in-law, Blanche Morrison of San Diego, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today in West End Baptist Church, 501 W. Washington St., Suffolk, with the Rev. Skip Irby officiating.

Interment will follow in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. The Purviance Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Homes, Wakefield, is in charge of arrangements.
