Franklin T. Hackney

FRANKLIN—Franklin Theodore “Frank” Hackney, 73, died March 30, 2007, at McGuire Veterans Medical Center in Richmond.

Born in Danville, he was a son of the late Clarence Amos and Vivian Empress Shackleford Hackney.

Mr. Hackney was a retired meat manager for A&P, a former National Guardsman and a Navy veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a member of VFW Post 4411, American Legion Post 73, Franklin Masonic Lodge 151, AF&AM and was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Ola V. “Brenda” Wiseley Hackney; two daughters, Nanette H. Carter and husband Tony of Franklin and Sheryl Bass-Hulbert and husband Ronnie of Virginia Beach; one sister, Ruth H. Dubiel of Abington, Md.; four grandchildren, Tony Marlin Carter Jr. and wife Meike, Eric Franklin Carter, Brian David Carter and Catherine Marie Bass; one great-grandchild, Michelle Kimberly Carter; five adopted grandchildren, Justin Dean Bailey, Morgan Leigh Bailey, Amanda Elizabeth Wright, Jack Wright and Taylor Leighann Bradshaw; and his beloved Sadie.

He was predeceased by two sisters and one brother.

The funeral was conducted Monday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Williams officiating.

Burial, with military honors, followed in Riverside Cemetery.
