Quince R. Olsen

Quince Ray Olsen, 42, of Burns died Sept. 20 in Pine Bluffs.

He was born Aug. 4, 1964, in Cheyenne.

Mr. Olsen was a consumer protection specialist, lead inspector for the state of Wyoming Department of Agriculture, Technical services (Weight & Measures).

He attended the First Christian Church.

Mr. Olsen attended Laramie County Community College and the University of Wyoming on scholarships, with his activities and achievements obtained from the learning and experiences that he acquired during his years of involvement with FFA and 4-H. He was on the livestock and meats judging teams both at LCCC and UW. Mr. Olsen graduated with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, specifically meat science, food science and a master’s degree in ruminant nutrition. His thesis: &uot;The Effects of Chromium Picolinate on Feeding, Growth and Carcass Characteristics of Growth of Lambs.&uot;

Mr. Olsen was a youth member of FFA and 4-H and continued throughout his adult life to support the youth in those organizations. He was a 4-H Club leader for the meats judging teams, a member and rater for the horse levels group; a member of Cheyenne Regulators, NRA and an active conservationist, rancher and horseman and an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He loved to cook, as well as being a loving, devoted husband and father.

He is survived by his wife, Sonja K. Olsen, whom he married March 6, 1993, in Pine Bluffs; a daughter, Kaycee M. Olsen of Burns; his father, Gerald C. Olsen of Kimball, Neb.; his grandmother, Doris G. Olsen of Kimball; his mother, Nora F. (Miller) Buxbaum of Las Vegas, Nev.; two brothers, Julian Rael of Maryland and Tony Rael of Las Vegas; and a sister, Melissa &uot;Missy&uot; Forsman of Texas.

The memorial service is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cheyenne Hills Church, 7505 Hwy. 30, Cheyenne, with the Rev. Kurt Borgaard officiating.
